MAURICEVILLE COUNTY

MEETING OF COUNCIL. TENDER FOR BRIDGE ACCEPTED. (“Times-Age” Special.) ( The monthly meeting of the Mauriceville County Council was held.yesterday afternoon. The chairman. Mr E. W. Cheelham, presided, there also being present Councillors O. Welch, A. Forsberg and A. Gray. Leave of absence was granted to Councillors Bennett and MacDonald. The treasurer’s report showed a credit balance of £396 ss. Accounts amounting to £386 3s 6d were passed for payment. It was decided that a penalty of 10 per cent be added to all rates not paid by February 12 next. The District Engineer advised approval of the tender of Messrs Rhodes and McPherson for the construction of Kopuaranga Stream Bridge and it was decided to finally accept the same.

It was resolved that the statutory special meeting be held on January 13 next, to decide the statutory half-holi-day for shops for the year 1941/2. The holidays were arranged as from December 23, 1940, to January 3, 1941, both days inclusive. The chairman extended the season’s greeting to the Councillors, the County Clerk, and the road staff, which were reciprocated.

It was decided that the next meeting of the Council be held on January 13.
