MARTINBOROUGH
BOROUGH COUNCIL MONTHLY MEETING. ("Times-Age” Special.) The monthly meeting of the Martinborough Borough Council was held last night. There were present: The May or (Councillor C. W. Skill). Councillors M. N. Hardie. G. P. Cotter. M. Mulvaney, W. H. Corfield, and T.’ A. Hamilton. The Wairarapa Automobile Association forwarded a cheque for £7O, and asked the charges for the use of the camping ground. It was decided that Wairarapa Automobile Association members be admitted free with a flat charge of Is daily for the use of kitchen and facilities. The weekly tariff was fixed at 10s to members of Automobile Associations, and 12s 6d to nonmembers. with a charge of Is daily for the use of the kitchen and facilities. Accounts amounting to £462 15s 8d were passed for payment. The Works Committee reported that the headworks had received attention during the month. Roads had been cleaned and weeds poisoned on the footpaths. Arrangements had been made for cutting the grass on back roads. It was decided that the coloured lights be erected during the holiday period. The ranger reported having registered 26 dogs, bringing the total to 117 for the year. The borough had been free of wandering stock” during the month. It was decided that a 10 per cent penalty be placed on unpaid rates after February 13. The Clerk and overseer were granted their annual holidays as from December 23. The Mayor thanked the committee for their hearty co-operation during the year, and wished them the compliments of the season.
SCOUTS & GUIDES PATRIOTIC CONCERT. An excellent entertainment, the proceeds from which are to be devoted to patriotic purposes, was presented at the Town Hail last night by the local Girl Guide and Boy Scout companies. The hall was crowded, and the audience signified their approval of the various items by hearty applause. The first part of the programme comprised a campfire concert by the companies, and a special item by the Maoris under Mr Ike Robin. The second portion comprised a spectacular British Empire pageant, showing the birth and growth of the Empire, the present crisis, and the call to the Dominions. The costumes were pretty and the groupings most effective. The Patriotic Society will benefit to the extent of about £25 as the result of the concert.
