Old Bill, one of the early favourites for the Auckland Cup, carried off the Bolton Handicap at Woodville on Saturday very narrowly from the promoted hack Gayest Son, a head separating them at the post. The sprint went to Vascones from Kathbclla and Lambourn. At Whangarei Silver Quex won the chief event by half a length from Tellsome, the President’s Handicap being won by an outsider in Selwyn, the favourite, Gold Money Song, being third.
