PATRIOTIC APPEAL
REPORT BY.DOMINION ORGANISER. GOOD RESPONSE IN MANY AREAS. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. Gratifying reports of patriotic efforts are being received by Mr Abel, the Hon. Dominion organiser of the million pounds appeal. Several districts are well on the way to attainment of thenquota and one has well advanced towards doubling it. The Mayor of Pahiatua states that, by means of a Queen Carnival, £4,658 has been raised, greatly exceeding the district quota of Pahiatua is second only to Waipukurau, which is well on the way to doubling its It is reported from the Waikato that up to last evening £43,000 was in hand, with a further £l,OOO in sight, £44,000 of Waikato’s quota of £4s,ouu. “The Waikato zone is particularly to be commended," said Mr Abel, “for in the Sick, Wounded and Distress Fund and in the present appeal, contributions have been more than £1 for every man. woman and child in the zone.
