Among the soldiers invalided to New Zealand from the Middle East is Private M. C. Clarkson, of Eketahuna. A large number of friends gathered at the home in Masterton of Private S. C. Pinkerton when he was entertained at a social and made a presentation. A most enjoyable time was spent in singing and dancing. Brigadier C. Gray, Divisional Commander of the Salvation Army in Christchurch, has been transferred to the position of Divisional Commander in Wellington. His successor in Christchurch will be Major S. Bridge, Dunedin. The death has occurred of Sir John Robert Sinclair, formerly a member of the Legislative Council, says a Press Association message from Dunedin. Before his appointment to the Legislative Council in 1907, he was solicitor for the Dunedin City Corporation and other local municipal bodies, and also for the Dunedin Drainage Board at its inception. For some years he was chairman of the Otago High Schools Board, and he was on the directorates of a number of financial companies. Sir John represented New Zealand on the Dominions Royal (Commission, 1912-17. He was 90 years bld.
