TENNIS TOURNEY
UNITED CLUB’S COMPETITION. KEENLY CONTESTED FINALS. The United Lawn Tennis Club’s tournament, which was postponed from, the King’s Birthday weekend, owing to wet weather, was concluded last night. The tournament proved enjoyable in every way and was a distinct success. The weather was fine and the courts were in splendid order. Under the direction of the secretary. Mr J. C. Corbishley and an energetic committee the tournament was decided smoothly and in good time. A high standard of play was in evidence throughout and the finals were closely contested.
The men's doubles event was won by J. C. Corbishley and G. L. Challis who beat C. K. Long and N. Beetham 9/7 in an interesting final. Mrs N. Beetham and J. J. Payton won the combined doubles event from Miss R. Percy and B. M. Hurley' in an exciting match. The ladies' doubles was won by Misses P. Nicol and M. James who beat Miss W. Holtham and Mrs C. Torr. 9 4.
