FEILDING
CHIEF EVENT TO DU MAURIER. KENTUCKY WINS FLYING 5 HANDICAP. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) FEILDING, December 1. Du Maurier scored a surprise win in the Manchester Handicap, the principal event on the opening day of the Feilding Racing Club's meeting on Saturday. He won the same event last year. The Flying Handicap was won by Kentucky, and the other open race, the Kiwitea Handicap, went to Harina. There was a large attendance, and there was keen racing in fine, bright weather, and on a track which provided perfect going. After the running of the Fitzroy Handicap, the seventh race, an inquiry was held into interference in the last furlong by the winner, Vai Pere, to the horses inside him. The evidence showed that there was interference after Vai Pere had reached the front, but it was due to the horse running in; that Broughton had made every effort to stop him; and the happening was accidental. The totalisator returns for the day amounted to £22,442 against £20,050 on the Saturday last year, which was the second day. This is an increase of £2392.
