PATRIOTIC SOCIETY FINAL DANCE OF YEAR. (“Times-Age” Special.) The Patriotic Society, held its final soldiers’ dance of the year in the Anzac Hall last night when there was a very good attendance. Mr Chas. Buck was M.C., and Udy's Orchestra provided the music. During the evening, Mr J. W. Card, president of the Patriotic Society, invited Lance Corporal P. Clark, Privates W. Burt, P. Fuge, H. Frew? C. Chalmers, M. Barry, G. Shirkey, D. Benton, A. Davis, C. Burt, and Leading Aircraftsman D. McKenna bn to the stage and congratulated them on having joined up. Mr Card wished them a safe journey and speedy return home and presented each with a sum of money. Major Reidy thanked the ladies who had helped to entertain the soldiers.. Major Reidy also thanked the officials of the Wairarapa Racing Club, Post Office and Railway Station for their help and co-operation. The following rallies conducted by the Tauherenikau Zone ladies, who were also responsible for the supper arrangements under the management of Mrs Q. Donald, were drawn:—Pair of fowls, donated by Mrs Brough, Major J. M. Reidy; ham, donated by Mrs J. Donald, Mr Julian; iced cake, donated by Mrs Chisholm, Mrs Marshall; Christmas cake, donated by Miss Nix, Mrs J. V. Reid; box of chocolates, given by Mrs Shepherd, H. Taylor.
ST. JOHN’S CHURCH LADIES’ GUILD. St. John’s Ladies’ Guild held the final meeting for the year on Thursday, when Mrs J. T. Holland gave a very interesting address on “London, Past and Present.” Mrs Willett bn behalf of members presented Mrs Slocombe, who is leaving the district, with a posy and wished her happiness in her new home. Afternoon tea was served. Red Cross Society. There were many callers at the Red Cross Rooms yesterday afternoon to view serviceable goods displayed before they were sent to the Lady Galway Patriotic Headquarters. Besides the articles knitted for the three services, Navy, Army and Air Force, there were many knitted garments. Some very serviceable things made from old material, a number of warm bed. covers, among them being a rug made of peggy squares and knitted by an old lady who had been confined to her bed for the last 12 years. Personal Items, Members of the Returned Soldiers’ Association and their wives visited the residence of Mr. and Mrs. G. Julian on Thursday night when an enjoyable time was spent in games and competitions. During the evening Mr. Julian was presented with a wristlet watch, and Mrs. Jillian with a crystal vase in appreciation of the services they had rendered in the interests of the Featherston branch of the Returned Soldiers Association. Mrs. J. Terriss, Wellington, was a recent guest of Mrs. J. Mutter. Private M. Barry and Mrs. Barry are the guests of Mrs. E. Barry. Patriotic Appeal. The following additional donations in connection with the Patriotic Appeal are acknowledged: Miss Riddiford £10; Mrs P. Williams £8 8s; Featherston Committee £7 10s; Wairarapa Power Board £5; Collection per Mr A. J. M. Leslie £3 6s 6d; collection per Mr F. J. Staples £2 8s 6d.
