ARTILLERY UNITS
GOOD SHOWING AT WAIOURU. PRAISED BY COLONEL POWLES. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. The grit and keeness of the young men in the ranks of the Territorial artillery units which have just completed advanced training and shell firing practice at Waiouru were highly praised by the Camp Commandant, Colonel Powles. He said the spirit of all ranks was splendid. They had spent a night and day under most trying conditions and there was not one complaint. .A few were nearly all in by the end of the day, but they spurned any suggestion that they should be relieved from duty. Although the camp was not yet completed, Colonel Powles added, the visit of these artillery units had given all departments a useful tryout and the experience would prove of value when the full complement of men arrived in January. The lessons learnt in the building of the Burnham, Papakura and Trentham mobilisation camps had been made good use of at Waiouru and it was confidently expected that it would be one of the best-equipped camps in the Dominion.
