PATRIOTIC FUND
THE £ 1.000.000 APPEAL. The local organisers of the patriotic appeal say they cannot yet feel that the public is behind the present effort. It may be too early yet to effect any definite results from the plans being put into operation. It is pointed out, however, that the Eketahuna and Pahiatua committees report that already they can see their quota filled. Included in the total of £697 received up to yesterday at 'John Bull Calls,’ Perry Street, was a donation of £5O from the Wairarapa Electric Power Board. The ladies’ committee controlling the gala day on December 7 state that they can do with more parcels worth Is or more to include in the mystery packets for that day. They also say that anyone desirous of assisting on the day should call or ring "John Bull Calls,'' phone 1715. The very extensive and attractive gardens of Mrs. E. G. Norman, “Woodlands," Cole Street, will be open for public inspection on Sunday afternoon and any proceeds will be generously donated to the patriotic fund.
