MOUNTED RIFLES
TRAINING POSTPONED. TO SUIT CONVENIENCE OF FARMERS. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON. November 28. The training of Mounted Rifle units in the Dominion which was originally intended should take place from January to March will be postponed for a month as a result of the representations of farmers and the Primary Production Council. This announcement was made by the Minister of Defence (the Hon. F. Jones) in reply to an urgent question by Mi’. T. D. Burnett when the House met today. Mr. Burnett asked if the Territorial training of farm workers and high country men could not be done in local camps two days a week as specialty units and brigade training be done in the final month, or as an alternative that calling up for training be deferred until June when the wheat had been harvested and the high country flocks were held in winter quarters. Mr. Jones, in his reply, added that he was prepared to give consideration to further representations by Mr. Burnett and would advise him later whether it would be practicable to adopt a plan such as he suggested.
