FLYING-OFFICER LONG
SIX MONTHS’ INSTRUCTIONAL DUTIES. Pilot Officer F. H. Long. of the R.A.F., a son of Mr and Mrs W. H. Long, of Masterton, has been promoted to the rank of flying-officer. After twelve months’ active duties he has been posted for six months for instructional work. Since the war started he has done 1000 hours flying, 500 hours of which were at night. In a letter to his parents, he states that he has taken part in raids on the following places: Kiel (2), Wilhelmshaven (2), Sylt (3), Norway, Denmark, Italy, Borkum, Hamburg, Bremen, Ruhr Valley (the raids in this area ' are too numerous to mention). Frankfort, Mannheim, Prague, Kamell and “heaps of other places.” Flying Officer Long said he tried to get posted to the fighter machines, but the authorities held that he was too experienced a bomber pilot to be spared. for fighters.' He states that he is fit and well and that there is no shortage of food in Britain.
