RAILWAY GOODS TRAFFIC
EARLIER DELIVERIES DESIRED. Tn order to expedite the loading and dispatch of goods trains, the Railways Department solicits the co-operation of business firms by their arranging, whenever it is possible, to deliver outward consignments to the goods sheds or loading yards as early as possible in’ the day. Late hour deliveries load to congestion at receiving depots and tend to delay the dispatch of goods trains with consequent late deliveries at destination stations. If the cartage of goods to the railway depots were systematically spread over the first six hours of each full working day shippers would benefit by an earlier release of their lorries and a valuable saving in time of the lorry drivers Consignees, on the other hand, would certainly appreciate the earlier arrival of their consignments.
