NAZI MENTALITY

DELIGHT OVER DESTRUCTION OF HOMES. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, November 27. In spite of the picturesque Nazi claims of the military damage inflicted by the Luftwaffe on Britain, with their liberal use of superlatives in broadcasts, such as one from Berlin describing a recent raid, on Bristol, “with its many large harbours” and “enormous shipping traffic,” there is still to be found the Teutonic tendency to gloat over destruction for its own sake, however wanton. A Rome broadcast on Monday, for example, giving Berlin as the source, stated: “An American correspondent in describing his impressions after visiting London eastern districts writes that only 9000 homes out of 25,000 are left.” The vagueness of the statement and its source, while rendering such information valueless, at the same time sheds a lurid light on the Nazis’ own estimate of impressive news.
