BOARD OF GOVERNORS MEET AGRICULTURAL DEVELOPMENTS ACTING-PRINCIPAL'S REPORT. The monthly meeting of the Wairarapa College Board of Governors was held last evening, the chairman. Mr W. R. Nicol, presiding. There were also present Messrs F. C. Daniell, L. T. Daniell. G. C. L. Dickel. T. Hanley, A. O. Jones. J. D. O’Connor. F. M. Whyte and Mrs J. L. Hair. Mr L. T. Daniell reported that there was ample feed for the stock, which was in good order. The new football ground, about five acres,' was carrying a most creditable bottom of grass, creditable to those who sowed it down so well and which was now being fed off to be shut up next week for seed growing—white clover seed and possibly some ryegrass. Mr David Donald. Te Whiti. had promised a good Southdown ram to the College. The boys were to select it next February. With good ewes selected by the boys it was hoped to compete for the Meat Board competition next November.
Accounts for School Account £l6l 4s 2d and Hostel Account £142 Ils 7d were passed. Captain R. J. Fowler was given an extension of his leave of absence to allow of Territorial training. Mr R. J. H. Martin, who has joined the Royal New Zealand Air Force education services, was granted leave of absence for the duration of the war. The West School Committee was given permission to use the Assembly Hall for a school function to be held on Wednesday, December 18. A motion of condolence was passed with Mr and Mrs Gemmell in the death of their son and a motion of sympathy was passed with Mr and Mrs T. W. Prout, whose son was reported missing on active service and the hope was expressed that he would be found.
The report of the Acting-Principal, Mr G. W. Morice, stated that Miss N. R. Thompson. 8.A.. had been engaged as relieving teacher till the end of the year and some adjustments of classes made. The roll numbers as on November 15 were: Boys, 230; girls, 195; percentage of attendance, 92.9. The vocational guidance officers. Mr A. A. Kirk and Miss P. L. Jull, spent a whole day at the college interviewing parents and pupils who wished guidance. Two of the evening school pupils, K. Miller and D. A. Cairns, had passed the examination held by the New Zealand Institute of Secretaries. Mr Bibby, co-operating with Mr L. T. Daniell, was undertaking with the agricultural classes a programme of work connected with the stock, pastures, etc., which should make the farm a most valuable adjunct from an educational point of view. The breakup ceremony, had been fixed for Thursday, December 12, and Major Lampen had consented to speak and present the prizes. Great improvements had been made at the baths.
