HASTWELLS

WOMEN’S INSTITUTE BUSINESS AT MONTHLY MEETING. ("Times-Age" Special.) At the monthly meeting of the Hastwell Women's Institute Mrs. A. V. Madsen presided over a large attendance of members. Miss O. Halberg gave an interesting report on the meeting held in Eketahuna. A table cover won by the Hastwells Institute and to be held by it for six months was displayed. The secretary read a letter from a soldier in Egypt, thanking the Institute for a parcel he had received. The competitions resulted as follow: Seniors, shortbread, Mrs Morris 1. Mrs O. Halberg 2, and Mrs J. Dick 3. Juniors. ginger biscuits. Miss E. Larsen 1. Miss O. Halberg 2, and Miss I. Madsen 3. Best posy of wild flowers, Miss A. Dick 1, Mrs Morris 2, and Mrs J. Dick 3. The Misses K. and I. Larsen conducted a game which was won by Mesdames K. Ngatuere and O. Halberg. Mesdames C. Seymour and Broadbent were accorded a vote of thanks for judging the competitions. Twenty baking powder tins of shortbread and ginger biscuits were sealed up to be sent to soldiers overseas.

Afternoon tea was served by the hostesses. Mesdames C. Seymour and Thorby. The meeting closed with the singing of the National Anthem.
