WINNERS AGAIN

SOLWAY COLLEGE SECURES LONGUET SHIELD SUCCESS IN LIFE-SAVING WORK. PRESENTATION THIS MORNING. After withdrawing from the competition for two years following a succession of wins, .Solway College this year again won the S. A. Longuet Memorial Shield, awarded for lifesaving work among secondary schools of the Wellington Province. Mi’ F. Jones, president of the Wellington Rotary Club, in the presence of Wellington and Masterton Rotarians, made the presentation of the shield at the college this morning. In welcoming the Rotarians, the Rev David McNeur spoke of the value' of service as embodied in the aims of Rotary and emphasised its necessity in critical times. Those associated with the competition for the Shield had appreciated Solway’s gesture in withdrawing after winning each year from the inception, said Mr Jones, in making the presentation. They welcomed Solway back, and in offering the school their congratulations felt they were renewing a life-saving tradition. Mr Jones appealed to the school to support the movement which was now afoot for the ■carrying on of life-saving work by women and girls while men were on active service. Mrs M. B. Thompson, principal, said the principle of "Service before Self" which lay behind the Longuet Shield and the man whom it commemorated was the spirit which must animate the new world order and the lastingpeace which was to follow the war. A half-holiday was given the girls, who. after the ceremony, entertained the members of Rotary at morning tea.
