INCLUDED IN R.A.F. OBJECTIVES
Extended Series of Smashing Attacks ITALIAN ROYAL ARSENAL AGAIN HEAVILY BOMBED RAIDS ON ENEMY OCCUPIED PORTS AND AERODROMES Berlin and. Turin were included in the targets attacked by British bombing squadrons on Tuesday night. Other places attacked were Rotterdam, Flushing, Antwerp, Boulogne, the enemy submarine base at Lorient and aerodromes in occupied territory. A heavy and concentrated attack was made on armament factories at Cologne. Railway stations and yards were the main objectives in Berlin. At Turin, the Royal Arsenal was bombed for the second time in four days. The British pilots had the advantage of a cloudless sky. The first planes attacked with explosive and fire bombs and there were frequent explosions in the middle of the blaze. When the last of the British planes reached the Alps on their homeward journey they could still see the orangered glow of fires at Turin. From the whole of the night’s operations, five of the British planes failed to return. ; In comparison with these widely-extended British attacks, few German bombers operated over Britain on Tuesday night.
