SECRET SESSION

PROBABLY NEXT WEEK. DISCUSSION OF DOMINION WAR EFFORT. (By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright) WELLINGTON, This Day. The possibility of a secret session to enable members to hear and discuss the latest developments in the country’s war effort was mentioned by the Prime Minister, Mr Fraser, when replying to an urgent question by Mr Lee (Democratic Labour, Grey Lynn). He suggested that the most convenient time for this discussion would be next week just before Parliament was prorogued till early in the coming year. Mr Lee asked the Prime Minister if he would, before the House rose, make a statement of the war position, and, if required, subsequently give members an opportunity to discuss the war situation in general and the Dominion’s war effort in particular. “If the House expresses a general wish for a discussion on the war situation and the Dominion’s war effort I shall be pleased to arrange for such a discussion, probably in secret session,” said the Prime Minister. It was only right, he added, that there should be the fullest opportunity for discussion. If it met the convenience of the House a secret session could be the last business of the Parliamentary session. A start could probably be made on Thursday of next week.
