MODEL AEROPLANES
MASTERTON WINS VINSON CUP. INTER-CLUB COMPETITION. An inter-club match held at Paraparaumu aerodrome during the weekend between the Wellington, Foxton and Masterton model aeroplane clubs resulted in the Masterton Club obtaining three first and four second prizes and winning the Vinson Cup by ten points to six. The weather conditions were quite favourable. Towards midday on Monday the wind dropped and a very hot afternoon enabled the competitors to fly their machines consistently and heights up to and over 2,000 feet, were frequent. One plane disappeared and was lost to sight. All the teams camped on the aerodrome in tents and a happy and healthy weekend was enjoyed by all members. There were many tired and sunburnt passengers in the cars returning home late on Monday night. In an effort to win the Vinson Cup a team of 12 competitors from Masterton took part and were well rewarded for their efforts. The cup will be held by the Masterton Club until the next inter-club contest on January 22, when an endeavour will be made to retain it. The following are the results of the contests: — H.L. gliders: I. Gilliland (Masterton) 1; R. Bale (Masterton) 2. ILL. fuselage: C. Woolf (Wellington) 1: A. Carmine (Masterton) 2.
