£1,000,000 APPEAL
THE PATRIOTIC FUND. Progress is being maintained in the efforts by the local committee to raise Masterton’s £BOOO quota of the Patriotic Fund. Other centres are doing very well, and the committee would like to point out that in the two previous appeals Masterton exceeded its quota, and that its contributions per head were among the best in New Zealand. The organisers of this appeal feel that the public of Masterton have sufficient civic pride to make their task easy by contributing to the limit without waiting to be asked. There is always someone on hand at “John Bull Caffs,” Perry Street, ’phone 1715, to take donations from anyone who has not been aproached through the employer and employee appeal.
The committee’s main effort this week in addition will be the monster children’s gala day at the Park Oval next Saturday. Here is a chance for everyone to assist the cause, while at the same time getting fun and enjoyment. There will be fancy dresses, decorated vehicles, pets, races, novelties, sideshows and everything to assist the patriotic effort and to entertain everyone. The ladies arranging this big effort state that donations of cakes, sweets, parcels for lucky dips, etc. (to be clearly marked for boy or girl or adult), may be left at "John Bull Calls," in Perry Street. Every little helps to raise money for relief of distress, comforts for soldiers, and rehabilitation of returned men.
