GARDEN PARTY

CHURCH OF THE EPIPHANY GATHERING. A SUCCESSFUL EFFORT. The annual garden party arranged by the Church of the Epiphany was held on Saturday, there being a good attendance in spite of the unfavourable weather. Archdeacon E. J. Rich, who opened the gathering, stressed the necessity of the church redoubling its efforts in time of war and of every individual doing his part. He congratulated the guild on its splendid efforts and thanked the members and all who had contributed towards the success of the occasion. The winners of the competitions were:—Load of wood (donated by Mr Adams), Mrs Davies (42); box of chocolates (donated by Mis Dalrymple), Mrs D. McMaster (226), doll, (donated by Mrs Francis), Gail Stewart (12); doll (donated by Mrs Munro), 18. Hirst (name, Annie ), manicure set (donated by Mrs Whitton) Mrs ,B. McMaster (21); eggs (donated by Mrs Macrae), The Rev. V. Joblin (160z5.); baby's dress (donated by Mrs W. G. Cameron), Mrs B. McMaster (5). The stall-holders were:—Work, Mesdames W. Henson and H. M. Buddington, Misses D. Kemp and N. Boddington; produce, Mesdames Williams and Holtham; flowers, Mrs Duncan and Miss J. Wilkie; jumble, Mesdames Miller and Palamontain; strawberries and cream, Misses Wyber and J. Miller; sweets, Mrs Braggins and Miss M. Jones: cakes, Mrs Hibbs and Miss McCarter; ice-cream, Mr and Mrs Bradley; afternoon tea, JJesdames A. T. Jackson, Thomas, Adams, C. Jackson, Reynolds, and Miss Edge; hoop-la and games, Messrs Adams, Bradley ano Sunday School teachers. Thanks are due to Messrs Braggins and Adams for cartage of goods, etc., and to members of the men s committee for arranging the stalls. Mrs Whitton, president of the Guild, was untiring in her efforts and the success of the parly was largely due to her work.
