NEW AMBASSADOR

REAR-ADMIRAL LEAHY GOING TO VICHY. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) NEW YORK, November 23. It is reported authoritatively that Rear-Admiral Leahy, at present Governor of Puerto Rico, has been appointed the United States Ambassador to Vichy. A later report from Hyde Park, New Jersey, says that President Roosevelt has confirmed the appointment. In an earlier statement, Mr Roosevelt said that the position of Ambassador to France had been offered to General Pershing, commander-in-chief of the American forces in France in 1918. Unfortunately General Pershing's health had not permitted him to accept the position. Mr Roosevelt said he had not yet accepted the resignation of Mr William Bullitt, the present United States Ambassador in Paris.
