TOWN V. COUNTRY MATCH IN WELLINGTON. AN INGLORIOUS TOTAL. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON. This Day. Honours were with the players of the minor associations in the first day s play of the annual Town v Country cricket match at the Basin Reserve, Wellington, on Saturday. The start was delayed till 1.50 p.m. by rain, and Town took first strike on a soft wicket, which was all in favour of the batsmen. So well did the Country bowlers perform, however, that the whole side was dismissed by 4.42 p.m. for the inglorious total of 107. The Country innings opened inauspiciously at 4.55 p.m. With 9 runs on, Lemin got a good one past Sewell, and with five runs added Buchan sent Peterson's bails flying, both batsmen having failed to open an account. Norris, the captain of the Country team, then stopped the rot by soundly defending, while Donnelly, who had opened, delighted the 200 spectators by playing a breezy innings. When stumps were drawn at 6 o’clock the score stood at 60 for two wickets. Details: — TOWN. . First Innings. H. F. Rice, b Downes 9 V. H. Du Chateau, c Sewell, b Donnelly 24 T.
