ITALIANS IN TROUBLE AT METEMMA. ONLY VENTURING INTO PLACE AT NIGHT. (British Official Wireless.) (Received This Day, 12.27 p.m.) RUGBY, November 24. The virtual evacuation of Metemma, to which the Italians retired from Gallabat, is recorded in a Cairo communique, which stated that as a result of continued aggressive action by our patrols and artillery, Metemma has now “to all intents and purposes been evacuated by the Italians, whose patrols venture into the area from the surrounding heights only at night. So much for the Italians’ claims that Gallabat still remains in their hands. “In Kenya a numerically superior enemy force was driven off with casualties by one of our mechanised patrols which it tried to intercept. Theie is no change in the situation on other fronts.”
