MILITARY FUNERAL

LATE MR W. H. GEMMELL.' There was a large and representative attendance at the funeral yesterday afternoon of the late Mr W. H. Gemmell, who was killed in a motor-cycle accident in Masterton on Saturday morning. The popularity of the late Mr Gemmell and the sympathy which was extended by the community to Mr and Mrs Gemmell and family were evidenced by the long cortege which proceeded to the Masterton Cemetery. Members of C Squadron, Wellington East Coast Mounted Rifles, of which the late Mr Gemmell was a member paraded and the late trooper was accorded full military honours. Impressive services were conducted at the Chapel of Hyde's Funeral Service Ltd., and at the graveside by the Rev. H. S. Kings. The Last Post was sounded by Bugler J. Brett and a firing party fired three volleys. The pall-bearers were Captain C. C. Marsack, N.Z.E.F.. Messrs J. C. Corbishley. L. J. Evans. J. Corbishley. J. C. Johnson (Palmerston North), and J. J. Evans (Wellington). Included in the many beautiful floral tributes were wreaths from the Masterton Court staff and Masterton Police. N.C.O.’s and men of C Squadron. Wellington East Coast Mounted Rifles; directors and staff of the “Wairarapa Times-Age” Co.; Wairarapa Basketball Association; directors and staff of the “Wairarapa Daily Times”: Riverside Golf Club; Reliance Tyre Depot: and the Masterton branch of the New Zealand Labour Party.
