LOOTING IN LONDON
NUMBER OF OFFENDERS SENT TO GAOL. ONE CASE OF SABOTAGE. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) LONDON, November 23. Six auxiliary firemen were each sentenced to five years’ imprisonment at the Old Bailey for looting. Six other sentences against men in the London courts ranged from a year to three weeks. Two women received two months. Mr L. R. Dunne, the Marylebone magistrate, said looting was getting out of hand. The only way to end it was to let everybody know that they would be dealt with promptly and severely. Ernest Coles, aged 31. a fitter, was sentenced in Bristol to four years' penal servitude for sabotage in connection with aircraft at Bristol in October. The case was heard in camera.
