GAMES IN VARIOUS CENTRES. Wellington.— lnteresting play on soft wickets in the third series of the Wellington Cricket Association’s senior championship competition on Saturday afternoon saw Hutt draw level with Wellington College Old Boys and Kilbirnie in the lead for the championship, all with 16 points. Hutt, who had declared their first innings closed with 313 on for the loss of five wickets on the opening day, dismissed University for 71 and 128, thus winning by an innings and 114 runs. Midland had no difficulty in beating Kilbirnie outright by eight wickets. Midland increased their first innings score to 234, Crawford reaching 66. Kilbirnie. who had been dismissed for 198 on the opening day, could total only 91 in their second innings, with H. F. Rice, D. S. Wilson annd T. G. Lemin away playing for Town against Country. Midland hit off the 56 runs required to win for the loss of two wickets. Karori scored their first win of the season by beating Wellington College Old Boys by 15 runs on the first innings. With seven wickets down for 126, Old Boys made a valiant effort to reach the Karori total of 219, and failed by only 15 runs. Karori closed their second innings when 142 had been scored for the loss of seven wickets, and Old Boys, at stumps, had 98 on for the loss of four wickets, R. H. Lamason being left unbeaten with 60 to his credit.
Institute beat Wellington by 13 runs on the first innings. In reply to Institute’s 284, Wellington made 271, M. Thomas 61. Institute scored 139 for seven wickets in their second innings. A. Lang, formerly of Masterton, hit merrily in Institute’s second innings for 86, reaching 50 in 24 minutes, including five 6’s. Auckland. — The fourth series of the senior cricket championship concluded on Saturday. Grafton, 190, defeated Middlemore, 63, and 277 for nine wickets (Blandford 126) on the first innings. Training College, 251, and seven for no wickets, defeated Papakura Camp, 203 (Lewis 57, Rowe 52) on the first innings. North Shore, 364, drew with Parnell, 280 for six wickets (Capstick 95 not out). University, 320 (Bell 136) defeated outright PonsonbyBalmoral, 191, and 119. Y.M.C.A., 220 and 20 for one wicket, defeated Eden, 171 (Weir 62. H. Harrison 50), on the first innings.
