GREAT STRIDES
IN CANADIAN WAR INDUSTRY CONSTRUCTION OF SHIPS FOR BRITAIN. ALMOST EVERY TYPE OF GUN TO BE MADE. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) OTTAWA, November 20. The Minister of Supply, Mr Howe, in the House of Commons, said that negotiations have been completed for the construction in Canada of 18 large merchantmen for Britain. ; Reviewing Canada’s industrialisation in the last 14 months, the Minister forecast that the peak of production will be reached in the next eight months. He also announced the appointment of a Requirements Board to ensure priority of war needs, and he added that the Machine Tools Controller had banned the production of new models of vehicles, rail-cars, etc., to ensure that _ the production of die tools would not be diverted from munitions. Canada would shortly make practically every type of gun and substantial tank productions were expected early in 1941. The output of shells was being increased to 2,000,000 a month. Aero engine production depended on whether necessary machine tools could be obtained from the United States.
