ALFREDTON
PATRIOTIC EFFORT SUCCESSFUL CARD PARTY. (“Times-Age” Special.) A card party under the auspices of the local Patriotic Committee was held on Saturday evening when the takings amounted to £6 8s 6d. The winners of the prizes for cards were: Ladies, Mrs T. Smith 1; Mesdames Harland and L. Cooper equal 2. The latter won the draw. Men: Mr Walker 1; Mr W. Mardon 2. The winners of the aggregate were as follow: Mesdames Yarrall and Harcombe equal 1. the former winning the prize donated by Mr S. Edmonds. Men: Mr R. Low won the prize given by Mr G. Godinagh. The ladies’ consolation prize given by Mrs Weston went to Miss E. McLean. The men’s consolation prize, donated by Mrs Algie, was won by Mr G. Godinagh. The competition for a bag of sugar given by Mr Godinagh was won by Mr R. Windelborn. The box of soap donated by Mrs E. Seymour will be finalised next evening. The hostesses were Mesdames Dickens, Hull and McLean. Shearing Operations. Shearing in the district was again interrupted by the rain which began to fall on Sunday. Personal Items. Miss W. Smith, of Wellington, spent the weekend with her parents, Mr and Mrs T. Smith.
