WOMEN’S INSTITUTES
KOPUARANGA MEETING. COMPETITION WINNERS. (“Times-Age" Special.) The monthly meeting of the Kopuaranga Women’s Institute was held in the local hall on Thursday. The president (Mrs Jarrett) presided over a small attendance. The meeting was opened with the Ode to Friendship, the Aspiration and Prayer for Peace. Mrs W. J. Cottle gave a report on the Wairaarpa Federation meeting held at Carterton. Two soldiers’ parcels were packed during the afternoon. A bring and buy stall for providing funds for soldiers’ parcels realised a very satisfactory sum of money. The hostesses for January will be Mesdames Reside and Clarke, and the cooking competition is to be a piece of Christmas cake. The competitions judged during the afternoon resulted as follows: Singlet, Mrs Jarrett 1, Mrs Reside 2, .Mrs Wright 3. Pikelets, Mrs W. J. Cottle 1, Mrs Jennings 2. Miss E. Jarrett 3. Best bloom: Mrs Clarke 1, Mrs Wright 2, Mrs Reside 3. Afternoon tea was served by the hostesses, Mesdames J. Brophy and E. J. Wright. The roll call was "an amusing incident,” which was replied to by most members. An enjoyable gathering was brought to a close by the singing of the National Anthem.
