FOR PATRIOTIC PURPOSES I ' MATTER BEFORE P. & A SOCIETY. A SYMPATHETIC RECEPTION. At a meeting o;f the Wairarapa P. and A. Society held at Carterton today’ a deputation was received from the Carterton District Patriotic Committee to discuss a proposal made by the Wairarapa Interhouse Association that, an interhouse girls' drill and marching display be held in Carterton shortly after the King's Birthday display in Masterton on November 25. Mr. J. A. B. Lawrence, who apolo- . gised for the absence of the Mayor. Mr. D. L. Taverner, asked for the Society's co-operation in a combined effort with the Ahiaruhe sports committee and the interhouse association, to take place at the Carterton show grounds at a later date. Messrs. Geo. Brown and J. A. Steel outlined other proposals. Mr. A. E. Hall stated that he considered the present time a particularly busy one i'or farmers and he was in favour of a sugestion made by Mr. Smart that the effort be spread over the Wairarapa and held in Carterton at a later date. The president. Mr. J. A. McLeod, stated that the matter would receive the deepest consideration by the ..committee. A motion indicating that the society was prepared to act in lite matter was unanimously carried and it was decided to discuss it in detail at the next meeting.
