THIRTY-TWO SAFE
SHIPS OF JERVIS BAY CONVOY FIVE KNOWN TO HAVE BEEN LOST. FATE OF ONE VESSEL UNCERTAIN. Thirty-two ships of the convoy of 38 which the nien of the armed merchant cruiser Jervis Bay sacrificed themselves to save are now known to have escaped, the 8.8. C. reports. Four ships were sunk by the raider. A fifth ship, of some 3,000 tons, was abandonel later on fire. There is no news of another vessel of 8,000 tons. Thus, as far as is known, four ships totalling 25,000 tons were sunk by the raider. It will be remembered that the Germans have repeatedly claimed to have annihilated the entire convoy.
