Mr Wendell Willkie, unsuccessful Republican, candidate for the Presidency, in a broadcast, urged supporters to continue the fight for the principles of his campaign as a constructive opposition was vital for a balanced operation of democracy. Mr Willkie rejected suggestions that unity could be achieved by the formation of a Cabinet including Republicans. "We elected Mr Roosevelt President, and will support him. with our best efforts for the country.” The Republican leader in the House, Mr Martin, said Republicans in Congress would co-operate 100 per cent, with President Roosevelt, but would not sacrifice their minority rights under demands for national unity.
