EXTENDED RAIDS
MADE BY BRITISH BOMBERS
ATTACKS ON ENEMY PORTS. DAMAGE AT LORIENT. The Air Ministry, a 8.8. C. broadcast states, reports further extended attacks by British bombers on Lorient, Brest and other objectives in enemy and occupied territory, including aerodromes. A direct hit was made on a factory at the western end of the dock area in Lorient. All the British aircraft engaged in these operations returned safely. An Air Ministry communique states that the only air activity over Britain yesterday was that of a small number of single aircraft, one of which was shot down.
British newspapers yesterday printed photographs of Italian planes brought down in Britain on Monday, when thirteen of these machines were shot down in the Thames Estuary in 15 minutes by two British fighter squadrons which did not lose a single plane. The total bag of enemy machines on Monday was 29. Britain lost two planes.
Particulars of air raid casualties in Britain last month show that 6,336 persons were killed (including 2,900 women and 643 children under sixteen) and 8,695 were injured.
GERMAN CLAIM (Received This Day, 11.50 a.m.) LONDON: November 12. A German communique claims that “reprisals” against London last night resulted in great fires.
