MARTINBOROUGH

FLOWER SHOW AN ATTRACTIVE DISPLAY. (“Times-Age” Special.) The annual rose and sweet pea show conducted by the Girl Guides and Boy Scouts was held in the Masonic Hall, and proved a very bright and attractive exhibition. The entries were numerous and the quality of the blooms shown of a high standard. Mesdames Moser and Skeet, of Masterton. acted as judges, and passed favourable comment on the exhibits. Of particular interest were the blooms shown by the Guides and Scouts, one of the former being awarded the prizes for the champion bloom, the best red rose, and best individual bloom in the class. A produce stall and tea room did brisk business during the afternoon and a satisfactory financial return was achieved. The following is the prize list: — Roses. Two distinct: Mrs G. PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH MR & MRS J. MANN FAREWELLED Prior to his departure for a holiday in Auckland the Rev. J. Mann and family were farewelled by members of the Prebyterian Church and many friends in the Presbyterian Hall on Monday night. Visiting clergymen from other Wairarapa churches were present. Mr O. C. Feist presided, and eulogised Mr Mann's services to the church and town during the past three years. Mr M. McLfod then presented Mr and Mrs Mann with a gift and also one for each of the children. He wished Mr Mann prosperity in his new home. The Rev. F. O. Ball, Vicar of St. Andrew's Anglican Church, said that the town and district were losing good friends by the departure of Mr and Mrs Mann. Mr A. Clarke also spoke. During the evening songs were contributed by Mesdames R. Burch and Foreman and Mr Napier Hardie, a pianoforte selection by Miss Greenaway, and a recitation by Miss M. Mason. Mr Mann will be inducted to the Akaroa charge on December 12.

Motorist Injured. On Monday night about 6 o’clock Mr Roy Edward Ralph, employed at the Tawaha factory, was proceeding along the Tawaha Road from Martinborough. when his motor car left the road and struck a power pole, which tore the side from the car. Mr Ralph sustained injuries to his ribs and hip. He was conveyed to a residence close by, and Dr. McTavish sent for, the latter subsequently ordering his removal to the Greytown Hospital.
