PATRIOTIC APPEAL

DONATION OF ONE DAY’S PAY. ADVOCATED BY COMMITTEE. There was a large and representative attendance of all sections of the community, including a wide representation from women’s organisations, at a meeting of the Masterton district patriotic committee held in the Municipal Chambers, Masterton, last night. The Mayor (Mr T. Jordan) was in the chair. Many apologies for absence were received. Matters relating to the launching of the local appeal in connection with the £1,000,000 Provincial Patriotic Appeal were dealt with. Members of the various sub-committees reported excellent progress. It was decided that employers and ■employees be asked to contribute one day's pay to the local appeal. Mr E. M. Hodder said the matter had received the consideration of a committee and it was recommended that a committee of eighteen persons be appointed to handle the appeal. Employers would be interviewed by two members of the committee, and would be asked'to insert copies of a circular in each employee’s pay envelope, asking them to donate one day’s pay to the appeal. People who lived in the country, or did not come within reach of the organisation set up would be asked to make their donation of a day's pay or income.

The following committee was set up: Messrs Norman Lee, A. D. Low, E. M. Hodder, H. G. Alexander, J. C. D. Mackley, 11. P. Hugo, H. H. Mawley. G. Masters, J. Ninnes, H. M. Bodding-. ton, J. T.
