FEATHERSTON
HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY MEETING OF EXECUTIVE. ("Times-Age” Special.) A meeting of the Executive Committee of Featherston Horticultural Society was held in the Parish Hall when Mr. A. C. Pearce was in the chair. There were also present Mesdarnes Tutbury, J. B. Davis. Harkness, Arch Clark, Lowell, Luke Smith. Ritchie. J. G. McKenzie, R. Hardy, Misses Eva and Esma Card. Wilkinson. Viles and Mr. Arch Clark. Apologies for absence were received from Mesdarnes Bloxam, Hayes, Wakeley, A. C. Pearce, Lawson, McTaggart, Messrs Hayes, H. Clark, the McTaggart, Mesrs. Hayes, H. Clark, the Rev. R. S. Keenan, C. H. Rea. The resignation of Mrs. F. Alexander as steward of the decorative section was received with regret. The members expressed appreciation of the very keen interest Mrs. Alexander had shown in the operations of the society. Miss Esma Card was appointed steward in her place. The show is to be opened on November 21 by the Mayor (Mr. J W. Card). Mrs Claude Carter has donated a Christmas cake for a competition. It will be on Mrs. R. Hardy’s stall, and the proceeds will go to the Patriotic Appeal.
TENNIS CLUB
ENJOYABLE SOCIAL.
A social was held by the Featherston Tennis Club at the Anzac Hall on Thursday night. Mr A. W. White was M.C. Games were played till supper time after which the trophies won during the past season were presented by Mr. Allen, vice-president. The following were the trophy winners: —Ladies’ open championship, Mrs. Baker: Ladies’ club championship, Miss M. Rowles; men's open championship, Mr. N. C. Hunter; men’s club championship, Mr. A. W. White; junior girls' championship, Miss J. Marshall; junior boys’ championship, A. J. McNamara. Mr. Allen expressed pleasure at the large attendance,' among whom were a number of soldiers from the Trentham camp. Dancing and games followed the presentation of the trophies. Personal Items. Staff Sergeant Major Wakelin of the Territorial Camp in Wellington, and Mrs. Wakelin, Napier, are the weekend guests of Mrs. Charles Rea. Good Bowling. In the Canterbury Boys’ Cricket competitions played in Christchurch, Graeme Sharp, son of Dr. and Mrs. Sharp, Featherston, registered a fine performance by taking four wickets with four successive balls.
