A R.A.F. communique states that planes extensively reconnoitred Italian ports .and coastal waters. Fighters patrolled over Greek territory without meeting Italian planes. A successful raid on Assab (Eritrea) included the dropping of bombs on the main pier, and a number of warehouses, and resulted in a large fire visible for 45 miles. Enemy planes damaged Perim Island; Our fighters engaged a Savoia bomber approaching Malta, silenced the rear-gunner, and possibly seriously damaged the bomber. Many reconnaissances were made over the Western Desert, and Italian East Africa. All planes returned safely from all operations.
