MAURICEVILLE
WOMEN’S INSTITUTE MEETING OF MEMBERS. ("Times-Age” Special.) Mrs I. Cameron presided over a fair attendance of members, at the monthly meeting of the Mauriceville district Women’s Institute held in the Foresters’ Hall. The president extended i hearty welcome to visitors. The meeting was opened with the creed, aspiration and the prayer for peace. Mrs Wilson, who attended the Federation Council meeting held recently in Carterton, gave a very interesting report in. connection therewith. A demonstration on floral work was given by Miss R. Mortensen, who was accorded a vote of thanks on the motion of Mrs Nielson. The best bloom competition was won by Mrs G. Osborne with Miss R. Mortensen second and Mrs Cameron third. The roll call, “A Famous Woman I Admire.” proved very interesting. The hostesses, Mrs Trass and Mrs Osborne, served afternoon tea and the meeting closed with the singing of. God Save the King.
EUCHRE TOURNAMENT ENJOYABLE GATHERING. There was a good attendance at the fortnightly euchre tournament held last Tuesday evening in the Foresters’ Hall. The prize winners were Mrs H. Trass Senr. and H. C. Mortensen, while the consolation prizes were won by Mrs H. Trass Junr. and G. Nielsen. Supper was served by the ladies. The gathering was a most enjoyable one. Pig Industry. Mr A. Johnson, supervisor of the Wellington District Pig Council, accompanied by Mr R. Pierson, of Wellington, visited a number of the local pig studs. At the “Sunny Corner” stud owned by Mr W. H. Bird, a litter of seven Tamworth pigs were weighed, the pigs turning, the scale at 4261b5. at 8 weeks, approximately an average of 611bs. It is the maiden litter of the sow, “Mountley’s Tulip,” which Mr Bird -recently purchased from Mr Rogers, of Ngaruawahia. Personal Items. The many friends of Mrs A. Larsen, who unfortunately received many facial cuts and bruises when she met with a car accident last Monday and who is an inmate of the Masterton Hospital, will be pleased to learn that she is making satisfactory progress towards recovery. Mrs C. Johansen, who had been a patient in the Masterton Hospital, has returned to her home and her friends will be pleased to know that her progress towards recovery is very satisfactory. , A.C.I. R. Roigard, R.N.Z.A.F. of the Ohakea training station, has been spending his leave here. Mrs A. Smart, Pahiatua, is at present staying here with relatives.
