CARTERTON

BOY SCOUTS SUPPORTERS FAREWELLED. ("Times-Age” Special.) Members of the Boy Scout Committee and supporters gathered at the residence of Mr and Mrs A. J. F. Whitehead to bid them farewell. They will leave on Tuesday next for their new home at Wairoa, where Mr Whitehead has been transferred as clerk at the railway station. The time was spent in playing cards, the prizes being won by Mr and Mrs Whitehead and Mr A. Patterson. Supper was provided after which Mr White wished Mr and Mrs Whitehead, who were keen supporters of the Boy Scouts, the best of health and prosperity in their new home. Mr Whitehead returned thanks on behalf of his wife and himself. SCHOOL ASSOCIATION COMMITTEE MEETING. At a committee meeting of the Home and School Association held at the Carterton School there were present: Mr W, Martin (acting chairman), Mesaames Hurndell, Mellish, Paterson, Steffert, Goodin and King. Apologies for absence were received from Messrs J. M. Nicholls, G. Stark and Mrs F. L. Barr ((secretary). Mr J. M. Nicholls's resignation as president, owing to his inability to attend meetings, was received with regret. Mrs Hurndell was appointed president for the remainder of the year. It was decided to continue the fortnightly “five hundred” parties during the summer, if the present interest in these tournaments were maintained. The annual school ball, an entertainment which is always popular with both children and parents, is to be held during the first week of December. Persona! Items. Mr W. Sewell, of the New Zealand Permanent Military Force, Auckland, arrived home yesterday on leave. Mr A. V. Tunnicliffe, of Whakarewarewa, Rotorua, who has been in indifferent health for some time, was successfully operated upon on Tuesday at Rotorua. Mr and Mrs R. Bassett, of Dalefield, left Carterton yesterday en route for Christchurch, where they will spend a holiday. Mr and Mrs W. Moroney left Carterton last evening for Christchurch. Mr Thos. Merson will leave tonight on a visit to Christchurch. . . Church Service. ; Church of England services will be Vheld at Gladstone at 11 a.m. and Park- ' Vale at 2 p.m. on Sunday next.
