DEATHS IN LONDON
CAUSED IN LATEST ENEMY RAIDS POLICEMEN AMONG VICTIMS. SIX NAZI PLANES SHOT DOWN ON WEDNESDAY. (By Telegraph—Press Association— Copyright) LONDON, November 7. London was once again the main objective of German air raids on Britain last night. Some flats were hit and damage was done to houses, shops and other buildings. Some people were killed and injured. Bombs were dropped in many districts in the home counties and southeast England. The number of casualties was small. The south-west of England, Midlands towns, and a town in south-west Scotland were also raided. The Germans did not attempt big daylight offensives on any part ot Britain, using small formations only. Their greatest activity was in tho Southampton and south-east coastal area. , .
The Air Ministry states that six enemy aircraft were destroyed yesterday. Four British fighters were lost but one pilot is safe. Two persons were killed and others taken to hospital when six high-explo-sive bombs fell in a populous district. A number of houses were seriously damaged. An elderly man and youth were killed when a shelter was struck by a bomb. Another shelter nearby was wrecked and three women are missing. A bomb falling in the gardens between two rows of dwellinghouses damaged a large number of houses.
A plane, believed to be Italian, raided a south coast town tonight, killing several people, starting fires and demolishing houses. Incendiary bombs fell in a thickly populated area. Members of the A.R.P. quickly controlled the fires. It was the town’s one hundred and seventy-fifth raid. A bomb wrecked a London police station, killing several policemen. Two more policemen were killed when six high-explosive bombs fell in another London district, seriously damaging a number of shops and houses.
