Day and Night Operations BRITISH NOTIFICATION TO ITALY LIBERTY OF ACTION IN REGARD TO ROME In extended night attacks on Germany, the 8.8. C. reports, British bombers raided oil refineries, railway communications and other objectives, Shipping in the naval harbour of Cuxhaven was attacked in daylight. In the course of the night raids a factory at Spandau, a suburb cf Berlin, was bombed. The British Government has taken notice of a statement that Italian planes are taking part in the bombing of Britain, and accordingly reserves full liberty of action in regard to Rome. It is stated that the authorities in the Italian capital have ordered work to proceed full speed ahead on the construction of shelters. Owners of property are ordered to have shelters built by November 15. If they fail to do this, the Government will build shelters at the owners’ expense. German long range guns at Cape Griz Nez have again shelled Dover, with little effect.. The enemy gun emplacements were bombed by planes of the Coastal Command. London was again the principal target of Wednesday night’s enemy air attacks. The raid was not quite so protracted as that of the preceding night. One fire which was started sent flames high into the sky, but was quickly suppressed. Casualties occurred when an auxiliary fire station was hit by a bomb. Yesterday seven enemy planes were brought down over Britain. Five of ours were lost, but all the pilots are safe.
