OF REPORTED ATTACK ON RANGITIKI STORY OF NAVAL ACTION IN ATLANTIC. CABLED BY CORRESPONDENT FROM AZORES. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) (Received This Day, 9.10 a.m.) NEW YORK, November 7. Despite a short wave vigil since it was reported that there was an attack on the Rangitiki on November 5, no further news of the affair has been received. Reports that British warships were speeding to the aid of the vessel cannot be confirmed. A North America Newspaper Alliance correspondent, Mr. Jay Allen, en route to Lisbon by air, cabled from Horta that a coastguard warned the Clipper at midnight that a battle was proceeding directly in its course, which .was altered by 150 miles. It is therefore speculated that either a “leisurely” attack is continuing at extraordinary length, or that British warships have arrived and arc engaging the enemy.
