ON COASTAL SECTION OF GREEK FRONT
Italians Claim Crossing of Kalamas River AIR FORCES ACTIVE ON BOTH SIDES BURIAL OF FIRST BRITISH AIRMAN TO DIE FOR GREECE The Greek military authorities admit a slight withdrawal by their forces on the Epirus sector (inland from the Adriatic) a 8.8. C. broadcast states, and the Italians report that their troops have crossed the Kalamas River, which runs roughly parallel to the frontier eight or ten miles to the south. The air forces on both sides have been active, British airmen continue to give the Greeks all the assistance in their power. The Greeks state that their fighters drove off Italian bombers attacking Corinth and that a number of Italian planes were brought down at Salonika. The burial with full military honours of the first British airman to die for Greece is announced. He was a member of the crew of a bomber which attacked enemy troops. He died of bullet wounds.
