RED CROSS SOCIETY
COUNTRY DISTRICTS. MEETING OF SUB-CENTRE. The usual meeting of the committee of the Country Districts Sub-Centre of the Red Cross Society was held in the Country Women’s Club. The president (Mrs A. C. Gawith) presided over a representative attendance of members. The sewing for refugees is being continued and reserve stocks are being maintained as well as the knitting for sick and wounded soldiers. The convenor of this group requests that finished articles be returned as soon as possible in order that they may be forwarded to headquarters. The committee is grateful to its workers, who, in spite of the busy season attended the working bees on the second and last Wednesday in each month, and to outside workers for the constant supplies of articles. It was reported that the Spinning Circle was progressing. An appeal was made for wool for spinning; either fleece or dead wool, black for preference.
A request was received for literature for the military camps and members are asked to assist in this matter. Books may be left at the Country Women's Club.
The treasurer reported that new members were still being enrolled. It was stated that progress was being made with the Home Nursing Classes. The branch desires to thank the following for parcels:— Tinui Red Cross 'Emergency Committee, Kopuaranga and Opaki Women’s Institutes, Miss Cotterill for the loan of a sewing machine, and Mi- T. Verity for assistance given.
