FOR THE HOUSEWIFE
SOME USEFUL HINTS. Obtain a small quantity of ether from the chemist if faced with the problem of tar on shoes. Dab it on with cottonwool. After washing enamelled or painted floors with hot water, wipe them over with a cloth which has been rinsed in cold water, as this helps to harden them again after the hot water. Save your energy by putting castors on your clothes basket. The basket can then be moved along with your foot instead of being lifted. Never dust a room directly after sweeping. The dust must be left time to settle. Keep the stiff wrapping papers found in some tobacco or cigarette tins. They are excellent for the writing of household lists. Wash discarded stockings and keep in a receptacle in the kitchen. When blemishes appear on aluminium kettles or on the stove, use the stockings to rub the stains. This saves your polishing cloths.
