MAN POWER
SOUTH WAIRARAPA SITTINGS APPEALS AGAINST SERVICE. CASES DEALT WITH YESTERDAY. Sittings of the Masterton and district Man Power Committee were held at Carterton and Featherston yesterday. Messrs T. Jordan (chairman), L. T. Daniell and F. Cole were present. The following appeals against calling up for Territorial training were dealt with; — CARTERTON. An application by E. M. Gayfer and Sons to have D'Arcy Russell Gayfer exempted from service on the grounds of undue hardship was dismissed, with the proviso that appellant would not be called up prior to December 31, 1940. Mr D. L. Taverner appeared for the co-appellant. G. W. Busby appealed on behalf of Stanley William John Green on the grounds of undue hardship and public interest. Mr Taverner appeared for the appellant and evidence was given by Mr Busby. The appeal was dismissed, but the appellant is not to be called up until December 31, 1940. An appeal by the Parkvale Co-opera-tive Dairy Co. to have John Neil McCann exempted from service was dismissed. A further application to have Edgar Jack Lenihan exempted was adjourned. The appellant is not to be called up before December 31. 1940. Mr D. N. Adams, manager of the Parkvale Dairy Company, represented the co-ap-pellants. Application by Carl Anderson to have Alexander Anderson exempted from service was dismissed, with the proviso that the appellant would not be called up before May 31, 1941. The trustees of the Herbert Goodin Estate appealed on behalf of Gordon Thomas Goodin on the ground of hardship. The appeal was dismissed, but the appellant is not to be called up for service until after May 31, 1941. Mi’ Taverner represented the Goodin Estate.
Edward Cornelius Wadham made application to have Athol Edward Wadham exempted. After hearing evidence it was decided to dismiss the appeal. Appellant however is not to be called up until May 31, 1941. An appeal by John William Warrington on behalf of Robert Anthony Warrington was adjourned until May 31, 1941. Mr H. H. Daniell, Masterton, appeared on behalf of the co-appellant. A similar application by E. L. Gates to have William Francis Gates exempted was also adjourned until May 31, 1941. FEATHERSTON. The following appeals were dismissed, with the proviso that the appellant concerned was not to be called up prior to May 31. 1941:— John Robert Alexander Weatherstone; application made by A. B. D. Weatherstone. Alan Robert John Chisolm; application lodged by the Chisolm’ Estate. Bryan James Dick; appeal by the Chisolm Estate.
lan Wilfred Feast; application made by Wilfred John Feast. An application by J. Jameson to have Henry Kenneth Dixon exempted was dismissed. The appellant is not to be called up for service before March 31, 1941.
An appeal by William Williamson (on his own behalf) for exemption was dismissed, but the appellant is not to be called up until after December 31, 1940.
John Burnett Burt made application for a three months’ postponement of service to enable him to make arrangements for the running of his business. The appeal was adjourned until January 1. 1941, and the appellant will hot be called up for service in the meantime.
