CARTERTON

SCHOOL ASSOCIATION CARD PARTY. (“Times-Age” Special.) The fortnightly 500 party held last night in the Band Room under the auspices of the Home and School Association attracted a large number of players. The prizes were won by the following: Men, Mr A. Paterson 1, Mrs McGuinness 2. Ladies, Mesdames Page 1, K. Hodder 2. Caledonian Fair. The ladies of St. Andrew's Church will hold a Caledonian Fair in the Band Room, Carterton, on Friday next. The gathering will be officially opened at 11 a.m. by the Rev. W. J. Couling. after which the judging of cakes will take place. Well filled stalls of produce,flowers, cakes, needlework, fancy goods, etc., will be in charge of capable ladies. Morning and afternoon tea will be in charge of a ladies' committee The cakes entered for competition will become the property of the Fair. Hotel Changes Hands. It is understood that the Royal Oak Hotel, Carterton, has changed hands. Show Competitors. Mr McGuinness, of Lincoln Road, Carterton, left this morning for the Manawatu Show with his champion jumper “Scout,” and another animal who will compete in jumping and other events at the show. Emergency Reserve Corps. Applications for enrolment in the Home Guard for the group comprising the South Wairarapa County and the Borough of Carterton, are invited. Guy Fawkes Day. Guy Fawkes Day passed off very quietly in Carterton, only a few Guy Fawkes's being in evidence. , Consignments of Cheese. Cheese in large quantities continues to be railed from the various factories in the district and yesterday another big consignment was railed to Wellington. Personal Items. Mr G. S. Bruce, of the staff of the Bank of New Zealand, left yesterady for Wellington where he will spend a holiday. Outbreak of Measles. There are a number of cases of measles in the district,.including many adults.
