SECOND WARNING
OF ATTACK ON BEAU VITE TAKEN VERY SERIOUSLY IN MELBOURNE. POLICE GUARD REINFORCED. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) Received This Day, 12.25 p.m.) MELBOURNE, This Day. The guard over Beau Vite was strengthened last night because of a warning, received by the police, that Beau Vite would not be permitted to start in the Melbourne Cup. Because of the reliability of the first warning some time ago, the information that another attack is contemplated has been taken very seriously by the police. There will. be an unprecedented number of police on special duty at the course today to guard against any desperate attempt. The police were informed that, as a last resource, an attempt would be made to wound Beau Vite while he was going to the barrier, or when waiting for the start of the race. Two armed policemen now remain with Beau Vite in his stall and four policemen will accompany him out of his stall. Mr Stewart, owner of Beau Vite, said he had received a cable from an American syndicate, offering £lO,OOO for the horse, and he had replied that he was not interested in the offer.
QUESTION OF WINNINGS STATEMENT BY MR NASH. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, This Day. Interviewed today concerning the racing stakes won by Beau Vite in Australia, the Minister of Finance (Mr Nash) said that whatever was done would obviously be an arrangement between the Commonwealth Bank in Australia and the Reserve Bank in New Zealand.
